What to do if You Are Falsely Accused of a Crime?

Hi, I’m Jay Cohen from Bass Law and I want to talk about what to do if you are falsely accused of a crime.

The first thing you need to do, and the most important thing, is hire a lawyer.

We get calls all the time from people saying, “Hey, I’m being accused of this, the police just called me.” Well, I’m going to tell you now what I’m going to tell you after you hire me, and what you need to do is you need to stop speaking. If you’re falsely accused of something, it’s human nature to want to explain it, and to want to say your side of the story, to clear everything up.

But you don’t know what your side of the story is. You don’t know what they’re accusing you of! Don’t explain your side of the story to the police, don’t go write it on social media, and certainly don’t say anything to your accuser. It’s important that you keep detailed notes about everyone that’s contacting you and what they’re saying.
