Podiatry in Texas is regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, working with a Podiatric Medical Examiners Advisory Board, under Chapter 202 of the Occupations Code. While podiatry doesn’t draw the same public attention as some other medical fields, a DWI conviction can still put your license in front of the agency for review.
What the Agency Reviews
- Disclosure duties come from the agency rules. What has to be disclosed, and whether anything is due before renewal comes around, is set by the Department rules for podiatry rather than by a single statewide reporting deadline. Confirm that before you decide nothing is owed.
- Fitness-to-practice inquiry. The Department can evaluate whether the underlying conduct reflects a judgment or impairment concern relevant to safe practice.
- Range of outcomes. From no action to a monitored agreement or, in more serious cases, license restriction.
Why the Criminal Case Still Deserves Full Attention
Because the license consequences track closely with how the criminal case resolves, fighting the DWI charge itself, questioning the stop, the testing, and the evidence, remains the most direct way to protect both the criminal record and the license attached to it.
